2D area calculation according to Gauss-Elling
The procedure for calculating the area according to Gauß-Elling is briefly explained using the following example. The area of the example polygon is to be calculated:
The following auxiliary figures are created and calculated for the area calculation:
Area 1: from (121,115) to (121,0) to (100,0) to (100,100) ⇒ A1 = 2257,5 m²
Area 2: from (121,115) to (135,112) to (135,0) to (121,0) ⇒ A2 = 1589 m²
Area 3: from (135,112) to (135,0) to (130,0) to (130,95) ⇒ A3 = 517,5 m²
Area 4: from (130,95) to (130,0) to (100,0) to (100,100) ⇒ A4 = 2925 m²
To determine the area of the example polygon, add areas 1 and 2 and subtract areas 3 and 4:
A1 + A2 - A3 - A4 = 404 m²
