scaling

Description

Scaling describes a change in the size of a digital image, a distinction being made between raster and vector graphics.

The image resolution (pixel resolution) is changed when the raster graphics are scaled. Depending on the desired size of the image, the number of image points (pixels) is reduced or increased. When scaling the vector graphic, on the other hand, the geometric shapes that precisely define the objects contained in the image are stretched.

Compared to vector graphics, a loss of quality must be expected when scaling raster graphics.
